Although Michael’s current work is strictly digital, he began with film photography as a teenager, and since then, he’s spent his photographic career capturing mostly the outdoors—landscapes, seascapes, animals, plants, water, airborne objects, earthbound objects, buildings, food…pretty much anything but people. (In fact, he was going to call this website AnythingButPeoplePhotography.com…but he decided not to.)
Michael examines the objective, realistic, structural aspects of the subjects he photographs, whether those subjects are natural or man-made. Photography for him is a therapeutic, relaxing way of documenting what he sees around him both in his everyday life and in his travels. He looks not only at the conventionally appealing but also at the humorous, the quirky and, occasionally, the perverse.
